Traveling to Fiji on a Yacht
The objective of this page is to help yachts visiting Fiji with Customs requirements. You can travel to Fiji and your yacht can stay in Fiji for a period not exceeding 18 months.
All yachts and crafts entering Fiji, are subject to import clearance requirements and the payment of Customs duty on arrival. However, yachts owned and operated by a bona fide visitor or tourist may be allowed temporary duty free (Link to Concession Code 228 of part III of Customs Tariff) provided that:
a. The yacht is on bona fide cruise or participating in a yacht race;
b. The yacht is solely for personal use of the owner or master;
c. The yacht shall remain in Fiji for a period not exceeding 18 months from its arrival provided the owner or master is still cruising;
d. The owner or master shall retain his/her immigration status as a bona fide tourist whilst in Fiji; and
e. The owner or master is permitted to travel in and out of Fiji to attend to essential services such as buying spares for the yacht, family commitments, etc, whilst the yacht remains in Fiji for maximum period not exceeding 18 months. There will be no extension.
Super Yacht Charter Decree
This was introduced in 2010 and is applicable to Super Yachts that are being charted within Fiji Waters. In this case, the Super yachts must have locally based 'Recognised Super Yacht Agents' in Fiji, who will assist in the logistics of the charter around the Fiji Waters. They will be the ones who will be remitting the portion of Charter fee that goes to Government. The Charter Fee is 12.5% of the total cost of the Charter. This is administered under the Super Yacht Charter Decree, with all clearance for the Super Yacht being administered by Customs.
The "Recognised Super yacht Agent" will be required to:
(a) apply for and be the Vessel or Super yacht Charter permit holder on behalf of the Vessel Owner;
(b) collect all the documentation and fees required by the Super Yacht Charter Decree; and
(c) ensure total compliance with the requirements of the Super yacht Charter Decree.
Customs Ports
You must report your yacht inwards at a Customs Port upon arrival in Fiji and must clear outwards at a Customs Port before leaving Fiji. The Customs Ports are SUVA, LAUTOKA, SAVUSAVU and LEVUKA.
